Study on Clean Room Constituent Materials for Molecular Contaminant Free Clean Room

by Isao Tanaka, Tomoaki Kajima and Yoshinobu Suzuki

In order to reduce ammonia gas emissions from concrete and epoxy resin concrete floor coating, we investigated experimentally the mechanism of ammonia gas emission and the methods of reducing the gas emission rate from concrete and hardened epoxy resin. As a result, in the case of concrete, it was observed that the ammonia-causative materials in concrete were blast furnace slag, lime stone and fly ash, (which are additives used in cem-ent), gypsum (used for setting time control of cement) and nitrogen compounds on the surface of aggregates. The use of high-early-strength portland cement, which contains little blast furnace slag, lime stone and fly ash, and aggregates which have had nitrogen compounds removed from their surfaces enable ammonia gas emission to decrease to about 1/10. In the case of epoxy resin floor coating, the ammonia gas emission rate from hardened paint film can be reduced by reducing the amount of free amine in the curing agent and using a reactive diluent. Furthermore, it was possible to limit the ammonia gas emission rate of concrete coated with the improved epoxy resin paint to less than 1/10 as compared with that of concrete without coating.
